Ogwang John Bosco

HOD, Land Surveying and Geomatics

The department has five members; that’s Mr. Ogwang John Bosco (HoD), Members: Mr. Male Michael, Mr. Okiror Job, Mr. Kiyingi Hamza and Mr. Tulirinya John. All these staff members are highly experienced in the field of Surveying. The Institute of Survey and Land Management, ISLM under the Department of Land Surveying and Geomatics offers the program called the National Diploma in Land Surveying and Geomatics with the newly accredited program by the National Council of Higher Education (NCHE).  

The National Diploma in Land Surveying and Geomatics is taught program for a minimum of two academic years and a maximum of six (06) years for a full-time student. Each academic year will consist of two semesters composed of 17 weeks of which 15 are for training and continuous assessments and 2 for final examinations. 

Also, this program is run under the Competence Based Education and Training (CBET) system that under the TVET system. The Ministry of Education and Sports has shifted the training of all learners to competence-based training. The department has the latest equipment ranging from GNSS receivers, Total Stations, Theodolites, and the rest. 

The holder of a National Diploma in Land Surveying and Geomatics may be employed by other institutions that needs the services of the Technician Surveyor, or opt to proceed for a Bachelor’s Degree in any university within the country or outside. The institutions that mainly employ Technician Surveyors are: Ministry of Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Local Governments (Districts, Town Councils, Municipalities, and Cities), National Water and Sewerage Cooperation (NWSC), Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA), Umeme Limited, Private Surveying Firms, National Forest Authority (NFA), National Environment Management Authority, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Ministry of Water and Environment.
